Summary: Audio Book Bugs Look No Further!
Comment: The SanDisk SDMX2-1024 Sansa e140 1 gb audio player is everything I wanted. Extremely easy to operate once I figured it out, runs forever on a single battery, great memory for audio books with an additional 2gb expansion slot. My friend got one that defaulted to Japanese but we fixed the problem on the menu. The price is stupendous for the amazing quality of sound. Radio pick-up is excellent. I don't download music and bought it for books and could not be more pleased.

Summary: Great but 1 flaw
Comment: This player is small and lightweight. I carry it in my pocket when exercising and you barely know it's there. There is an armband that comes with it + the cover if you don't have pockets. Adding songs is simply drag in drop in Windows Explorer. The screen can light up blue when you press a button and automically turns off. You can change the brightness of it too.
It works seemlessly with the SD card, but using an SD card means it powers up a little slower because it has to do a seperate "check" for the SD card slot otherwise it treats the card like internal memory. Plugging the player into the computer, the player will show up as two seperate drives 1 for the player's internal memory and 1 for the SD slot.
The best part for me is that it very handy for transferring files so it is very convenient since I transfer work from school to home and vice versa.
The bad part about this player is that it has no playlist function. You're stuck with either play by song name, artist, album, play all, etc. So you might find yourself skipping over several songs in your library because you might not want to listen to that particular track right now or maybe you just want to listen to tracks you've recently added. Overall, good player, but lack of a playlist function is inconvenient.

Summary: Sandisk E140
Comment: Screen too small and if you stop in the middle of a song it doesn't save your place in the song.

Summary: Cheap, pretty dependable, but sometimes...
Comment: The features on this player are outstanding for the price. I was impressed by the ability to expand the memory, the built-in FM receiver, and the size of the player. However, not being able to use playlists, no rechargeable battery are drawbacks. There are strange quirks with it too, mixing up tags on songs, and the sometimes very slow startup of the unit is annoying at best. It takes some time for the unit to respond and advance to the next song when you hit the forward button, but once you get used to it it's ok. I would rate this about a C-.

Summary: Good value, decent function. Bookmark really works!
Comment: I have been looking for a MP3 player with
(a) low price,
(b) expandable SD slot,
(c) low maintenance cost,
(d) sufficient operation modes,
(e) bookmark function for audio book listening,
(f) support various music file format.
Luckily, Micro Center is selling the refurbished e140 for only $30 a piece.
Pro:
1. No software installation needed. It's just like another flash drive to the PC.
2. Use AAA rechargeable battery, no proprietary internal battery.
3. Expandable with standard SC card, not the mini-SD or micro SD card. It recognizes the inserted SD card easily without any problem. With the inserted SD card, when connected to a PC, PC sees two seperate flash drives. When not connected to PC, the MP3 player treats its internal flash drive and the inserted SD card as 1 drive.
4. To my surprise, the bookmark function does work not only for audio book, but also for music as well.
5. The menu is easy to manuver around. I used the sansa Express before, it's such a pain to use the menu in the sansa express.
6. While connectting to PC, you can listen to music (on the MP3 player's flash drive) directly with your PC speakers.
7. Has a "hold" latch (not a buttom) to prevent other buttoms from activated when it is in your pocket.
8. Has auto-power down option.
Don't Know:
1. Has FM, but I don't use it.
2. Can record voice, but I don't use it.
3. Have equalizer. I haven't tried it yet.
4. Not sure why, but this MP3 player has a stopwatch function?
5. The package comes with wrist band. Haven't tried it yet.
Neutral:
1. The whole player is all plastic. So I am sure it's not scratch-proof. But they do provide a protective sleeve in the package.
2. You can set the date and time. Not a feature offered by some other low price MP3 players.
3. The enclosed earbud is OK for me.
Con:
1. No debounce spring to remove the SD card. It's great that the inserted SD card leaves only a very small edge out. But it's hard to take the SD card out. If you don't have long nails, you may need some precision tool to take the SD card out.
2. Difficult to insert (and take out) the MP3 player into the protective sleeve. So, I just don't bother to use the protective sleeve.
3. The ">>" buttom does not offer fast forward operation to jump to the song that you want to listen. I have to click the ">>" buttom 100 times to get to the song #100. In Sansa Express, I just press the ">>" and hold the ">>" buttom, it keeps jump songs (a fast forwad operation) till reaching the one I like.
Overall, I am happy with this purchase. A decent MP3 player for such a low price ($30).
