Summary: Wouldn't recommend
Comment: The voice recorder FREQUENTLY locks up the iPod and records noise from the hard drive. When I recorded my lectures, they were barely audible and the WAV files eat up hard drive space fast. It doesn't sync with iTunes either. If you want something to record lectures, I would recomend an MP3 player with flash memory like the iRiver 256 MB(have one that records great compressed audio) or the iAUDIO 256 MB. Maybe someday Apple will wise up and include a voice recorder on the iPod... until then, buy a different MP3 player if you want to record voice.

Summary: School is cool with this cool new tool
Comment: If you like iPods, and your friends hate going to lectures, you can now record it for them and make them pay to hear it. You could recompress the mono WAV format into aac or mp3 and email it to them or put it on the local network for people to share, making you popular and a tool for the people who, darn it, just need to sleep in.

Summary: okay, but some problems encountered
Comment: One annoying problem: when the mic is plugged into the iPod for more than a few minutes without recording, the iPod freaks out and freezes. You'll have to reset the iPod, pressing play and the middle button on the scroll wheel. Unless you are ready to record, don't plug the mic in. Quite annoying. I am not the only one who encountered this problem.

Summary: so and so product, needs improvement
Comment: Upside: I can record with my ipod for the lectures that I go to, and download it to iTunes and share them with my friends who need to listen to the lectures on CD or WAV files.

Downside:
1) the quality of recording is average
2) it records the hard drive noise that comes up within the ipod every 2 mins. I can still listen to the foreground, but I have to put up with that noise! It is a pain.

All Belkin needs to do is to have a mic input so that people can plug in whatever mic they have, and change the software to adjust the mic sensibility

Summary: Pretty Good
Comment: "Voice Memos" are saved in mono WAV files which means it will fill up your iPod much faster than if it had the capability to be saved in MP3. In mono WAV format, I find that 1 minute of recording is equivalent to a 1MB file.
I like the recorder for what I need to do-which is simply to hear meeting/lecture conversations again but not to reproduce or publish them. I've used it in one on one conversations and in an auditorium. It did excellent in the auditorium. But if you record voices too closely to the mic, it doesn't regulate the peaks well. There is no gain control so if you are recording someone who speaks loudly, you will get a bit of this ..zzzzz. vibration due to high peaks. I could imagine this could be a problem for those who are going to use it for reproduction. It's still a genius addition to the iPod. I got what I needed.
